Runcorn Poor Law Union and Workhouse

The Runcorn Poor Law Union was declared 2 August 1836. The Workhouse was
situated at Preston Brook, Dutton and later became Dutton Hospital.
Runcorn - White Directory
The Runcorn Poor Law Union is situated at Dutton. The Union comprises
37 townships, for which 42 guardians are chosen, who meet at the Board Room every alternate Thursday, of whom Sir R Brooke is the chairman.
The Union is divided into the 4 districts of Runcorn, Daresbury,
Frodham & Budworth, & comprises the following townships: Acton Grange, Alvanley Antrobus, Appleton, Aston, Aston Grange,
Bartington, Budworth, Clifton, Crowley, Daresbury, Dutton, Frodsham, Frodsham Lordship,
Halton, Hatton, Helsby, Keckwick, Kingsley, Kingswood, Manley, Moore, Newton by Daresbury, Newton by Frodsham, Norley, Norton, Preston on the Hill, Runcorn, Sevenoaks, Stockham, Stretton, Sutton, Thelwall, Walton Superior, Walton Inferior, Weston, Whitley Superior, Whitley Inferior.
Robert & Mary Jones are the governor & matron of the house.
