Stratton Workhouse and Poor Law Union
The Board of Guardians meet alternate Tuesday's, one fortnight at 11am, the next
at 2.30pm at the Union House. The population of the Union in 1891 was 7,119,
area 54,120 acres and rateable value £39,835.
The following places are included in the Union:- Jacobstow, Kilkhampton,
Launcells, Marhamchurch, Morwenstow, Poundstock, Poughill, St Gennys, Stratton,
Week-St-Mary and Whitstone.

The Workhouse, situated on a hill near the Town, in the direction of Bude and
erected in 1856, is a rectangular building of stone with wings and will hold 80
