Brampton Union Workhouse
The Board of Guardians meet at the Board Room on the last Wednesday in each
month at 2pm. The area of the Union is 97,697 acres, rateable value £92,856 and
population in 1921 was 8,876.
The Poor Law Institution, on the east side of the Town and near to it, was
erected in 1875, at a cost of about £15,000 and is a structure of red brick
with stone dressings, covering an area of one acre, with attached grounds of two
acres. It will hold 200 inmates, but at present there are only 27.
