Wigton Union Workhouse

Wigton Union was formed 22nd June 1837. The area of the Union is 138,620 acres, rateable value in 1925  £199,013 and the population in 1921 was 24,227. The Guardians meet every fourth Tuesday at the Board Room.

The Poor Law Institution, occupying an elevated position on Station Hill is a building of stone and was erected in 1841.
