A century of the Daily Echo newspaper.
1904
A homeless Woman charged with lodging in the open air in Dean Park Road is
discharged on promising to go to the workhouse.
1905
Mr J. E. Cooper Dean, of Littledown, is thrown from his coach while driving to
the Christchurch Board of Guardians. His horses are frightened by passing
cyclists at Iford Bridge. Mr Cooper Dean, not seriously injured walks back to
Littledown.
1905
George Stevens of no fixed abode admits using obscene language in
Christchurch Road, Boscombe, and is fined 5s with 3d costs.
1907
The new Poole Hospital in the Long Fleet Road is opened by Lady Wimborne. She
expresses the hope that Poole will "ever maintain the Hospital so worthy of
the Town"
1908
The almshouse folk at Witchampton and Long Crichel receive a Christmas Gift from
Lady Alington of Tea, Sugar and a piece of Gold, plus tobacco for the Men. The
poor each get 5cwt of coal.
1912
Clare Adams of Winton, is charged at Bournemouth Police Court with being a
Lunatic wandering at large and not under proper control. in Queens Road,
Westbourne. She is sent to an Asylum in Salisbury.
1913
Female vagrants at Poole Workhouse are provided with mattresses instead of just
wooden beds.
1914
The Mont Dore Hotel in Central Bournemouth is commandeered as part of the War
effort and becomes a Hospital.
1914
King George V pays a visit to Brockenhurst Hospital where dozens of injured
Indian Soldiers are being treated.
